When designing the Villas at Bakubung we had to account for a number of external factors that would influence the design. As the Bakubung Villas are situated within the rich expanses of the Pilanesberg National Park and need to deliver on the promise of offering the client everything they would need in terms of luxury bush accommodation. Today's bush/game lodge visitor expects 6 star luxury but in an environment that very clearly gives an 'escape from the city' feel.

While designing the interior of each villa we shifted away from the obvious African design often associated with bush lodges and have moved towards the Colonial Contemporary design feel. This transitional style combines the comfort of living well within the African environment to create a truly elegant well designed living space.

Comfort is an important aspect of Contemporary Colonial design using large expanses of leather or upholstered sofas and plump cushions as well as faux skin ottomans and floor rugs.

The mix of modern and organic materials in a more minimalistic way creates clean and bright interiors that focus on one or two décor items that add vivid pattern, colour or texture to a room.

All of the Bakubung Luxury Villas are orientated in such a way as to boast a waterhole view. The waterhole facing façade of the villa features opening glazed doors to maximize the view as well as the inside/outside aspect of bush living. The architecture has taken the external elements into account, focusing on not disturbing the bush as much as possible.

Each bedroom has a king sized bed with a dressing table/desk and a small seating area, creating a private escape for the comfort of the client. Each bedroom opens up onto a patio with a view of the waterhole and each bedroom boasts an open plan luxurious bathroom with an enclosed toilet cubicle and an indoor/outdoor shower, synonymous with bush living, on the ground floors.

The main living space has an open plan kitchen fitted out with luxury appliances found in a city kitchen. The kitchen island hosts a cooker which gives the 'chef' a feel of being part of the action within the home. The lounge is orientated around a fireplace and the doors fully open onto covered patios, joining outdoor and indoor living.
